ABSTRACT

Abstract. EEL intensity maps have allowed the distribution of CaC03 and Si02 in a filled MWCNT (multi-wall carbon nanotube) to be determined. The spectral weight of nitrogen in the CaC03 and SiOz fillings provides evidence of the inhibition of nitrogen incorporation into the MWCNT in the vicinity of the CaCOJ. Fitting a sum-of-Gaussian function to low loss EEL spectra, required fitting of a discrete resonance of energy -4 eV. This resonance is attributed to varying levels of nitrogen incorporation and/or differing interfacial structures in the tilling.
