ABSTRACT

Low pressure electrical discharge lamps are mainly applied in lighting applications. Particularly, lamps filled with pure rare gas discharge are used in advertising signs. A global study of pure rare gas discharges behaviour has been made [I], but here, we will use the collisional radiative model to study the pure neon discharge positive column. We can point out two different problems in such lamps. On the one hand, the lamp life is a critical parameter from an industrial point of view. On the other hand the radiation emitted by the lamp determines its application. So understanding these processes and being able to control these two parameters may be interesting. The lifetime of the lamps depends on the nature of vessel, and the nature of electrodes for example [2]. In this communication we will focus on the nature of the radiation emitted by the discharge.
