ABSTRACT
ENERGY ON DEMAND A new Class E Converter type was developed for driving DBD lamps in color copy machines. In this application the lamp driving pulses shall be synchronized with the image scanning clock of the copy machine in order to avoid picture artifacts. By adding a second switch to an additional transformer winding of a conventional Class E converter it is possible to "freeze" magnetic energy within the transformer until it is released by a Sync signal. This circuit offers best stability and inherent power regulation at low cost.
