ABSTRACT
At specific time intervals, arc tubes were removed from the test lamps,cross-sectioned, epoxy encapsulated, polished, such that SEM and EPMA (Electron Probe Microanalysis) could be performed along the frit seal area. The typical chemical fill for lamps is a mixture of sodium iodide, tri-iodides of rare earth metals (Ho, Dy, Tm) and Thallium iodide.
