Generation and applications of 10-mJ XRL pulses near 20 nm using long scale length plasmas

A particular objective of this work was to investigate whether amplification in long scale-length plasmas, produced from a slab target by a sequence of prepulse and main pulse, separated by 50 ns, can be achieved. The motivation for this effort is a prospect to reduce refraction of the XRL beam in the perpendicular direction, while simultaneously increasing the size of the gain region potentially leading to strong lasing action.
