ABSTRACT

Abstract. Recent progress in the study of high order harmonic generation and x-ray laser drivers at SIOM is reviewed. We first summarize the recent experimental and theoretical results of high-order harmonic generation at SIOM, which include the phase-matched high-order harmonic generation in atoms, the role of carrier envelope phase in the generation and measurement of atto-second high-order harmonic pulses, and the proposal of high energy atto-second pulse generation by specially designed driving laser pulses. The development of high-intensity ultrashort-pulse laser facilities as x-ray laser drivers at SIOM will be reported. A 120TW/36fs Ti:sapphire laser facility based on the scheme of chirped pulse amplification and a 16.7TW/120fs laser system based on the scheme of optical parametric chirped pulse amplification have been developed. We will also outline the femtosecond petawatt laser project in Shanghai.
