ABSTRACT

The organization of water supplies in Britain, as in other parts of the world, has evolved from initiatives by private companies and public corporations. This situation still exists in many parts of the world, but in Britain a framework of organization and management' has been created by successive Acts of Parliament starting with the Waterworks Clauses Act, 1874 through to the Water Act 1973 (England and Wales) and the Local Government (Scotland) Act 1973. Further modifications were introduced in the Water Bill 1983.
