Protectionfromaeriallydeliveredweaponsandairborneblasteffectscanbe soughtbygoingunderground.However,buriedstructurescanbevulnerabletotransientstressespropagatedthroughthesoilandrockinwhichthey havebeenconstructed.Moreover,sensitiveequipment,mountedineither surface-builtorburiedinstallations,maysufferdamagefromtransmitted groundshock.Thischapterprovidesthedesignerwiththenecessaryinformationtopredictthelevelofgroundshockwhichwillresultfromanevent andtoassessthepotentialdamagewhichmaybecausedtoastructureand itscontents.
