Theaimofthisbookistohelpyoutodesignstructureswithaspecifiedlevel ofrobustness.Byrobustnesswemeantheabilityofastructuretosurvivea certainlevelofblastorballisticloading.Thetechniqueswhichwedescribe, ofcourse,canbeusedtoassesstherobustnessofexistingstructuresandso, inevitably,todeterminehowbesttodestroythem.Ourpurpose,however,is tohelpthedesignertoprovideastructuralenvironmentinwhichlifeand propertyareprotectedagainsthostilityandman-madedisasters.
