Current British thickness design practice in relation to new bituminous and concrete pavements

Reference 4 is based on observations and measurements of full-scale bituminous road experiments obtained over a 20 year period, supplemented by structural analysis to rationalize and extend the data. The analyses used the elastic stiffness modulus of the various pavement and foundation layers to calculate the strains developed within the structure, and these strains were then related to pavement life.
