ABSTRACT

There are two basic types of mechanized paving equipment used to lay concrete in rigid pavements: fixed-form and slip-form. Nowadays, slip-form paving is used on most major road projects, especially on long continuous stretches of road, whilst fixed-form paving trains are used on smaller sections, often in urban areas, or on complicated interchanges. Both forms of paving require a high standard of subgrade and subbase preparation to ensure uniform slab support, and high-quality finishing and curing to ensure good performance throughout the pavement's design life. The key to successful construction is good site planning and organization.
