Thischapterreviewsthedesignoflightweightaggregateconcretein variousstructuralcodesandidentifiesareasinwhichspecialprovisions aremade.Thecoderequirementsare,whereappropriate,comparedwith testdataandsuggestionsmadeformorerealisticvalues.Ingeneral,no attemptismadetocomparetheactualdesignvaluesgivenbythevarious codesbutonlythedesignapproaches,toshowhowlightweightaggregate concreteistreateddifferentlyfromnormalweightconcrete.Direct comparisonbetweencodesisdifficultbecausetheyincludedifferent safetyfactors,whicharenotalwaysclearlyexpressedinthedesign equations.Wheresufficienttestevidenceisavailable,comparisonshave beenmadewiththedesignapproachesinBritishcodes .
