ABSTRACT
This chapter looks at the use of structural lightweight aggregate concrete in buildings. It examines the different structural applications primarily in the United Kingdom but with some reference to construction overseas. It also considers the factors affecting construction costs and comparative economics of buildings when lightweight aggregate concrete is used. It does not cover the use of very lightweight mixes of low strength in, for example, insulating screeds and other non-structural applications.
