ABSTRACT

Inthepreviouschapteritisshownthatthefailureofunreinforcedcementitiousmaterialsischaracterizedbythedevelopmentofafractureprocesszone (FPZ)atthenotchtip.Forfibrereinforcedcomposites,thereisanadditional fibrebridgingzone(FBZ)formedimmediatelybehindtheFPZ.Thedimensionsofthefractureprocesszoneandthefibrebridgingzonearedifficultto determinepreciselyanditisalsodifficulttodistinguishbetweenthetwo zones.Consequently,manyexperimentalmethodshavebeendevelopedto enablethesizesoftheFPZandtheFBZtobemeasuredincementitious materialsandfibrereinforcedcomposites.
