HTML stands for hypertext markup language. It is the code used to program Web pages. Hypertext works like a cross-reference in a book. By following a link, the user reaches another gateway to similar or dissimilar information. This information then offers links to other gateways where one may jump again. Hypertext pages typically feature multiple links, offering multiple gateways to multiple paths of information. This is how the World Wide Web works.
