ABSTRACT

Skins are graphic files that are used to change the appearance of a computer program without changing the program itself. This is akin to changing your cell phone cover or a Windows theme on your computer desktop. The most popular skins are for Internet chat programs, MP3 audio and media players, Internet browsers, and games. Skins are typically downloaded from the Internet and installed on the local computer. Several Web sites offer templates that allow users to design their own skins. Skins are also available for operating systems such as Linux.
