ABSTRACT
For somebody who is not familiar with the cognitive sciences, the term "problem solving" may seem inappropriate as applied to design. As we noted, however, the technical cognitive-psychology acceptation of "problem solving" covers a wide range of problem-centered activities that cover also those implemented in design. In formal terms, design may thus be qualified as problem solving.
