ABSTRACT

Watering is necessary immediately after sowing. Subsequent irrigations are given at 5-to 10-day intervals. Clean cultivation is necessary to check weed growth. Precautions to avoid root injuries should be taken at the time of hoeing and weeding. The pole type varieties need mechanical support for proper growth and fruiting. Earthing up may also be done to provide protection against winds. When the rains are heavy, additional drainage facilities may be provided to prevent waterlogging. Poor water drainage leads to yellowing of leaves and new growth. The level of irrigation influences the bean pod quality (Table 1).
