ABSTRACT

The extracorporeal membrane oxygenator (ECMO) circuit is composed of several disposable and nondisposable components. The disposable components consist of the tubing, bladder, membrane, heat exchanger, and cannulas. Most institutions have preassembled sterile tubing pacs manufactured to their specifications. The ideal system should promote laminar flow, require minimum blood volume, be constructed for longevity, and be mobile for intrahospital transport.
