ABSTRACT

Soil is now a scarce raw material; the quantities of good quality soil are dropping irreversibly. In addition to this, contaminated soil represents a hazard for both the present and the future. Potential changes to the environment, which occur as a result of interactions between the various biological and chemical processes in the soil, can lead to a spread of contaminants in the ground and surface water.
