ABSTRACT
The term "solid support" is commonly used to denote the matrix upon which chemical reactions are performed. However, in reality solid-phase reactions are carried out not merely on the surface of the "solid" polymer but also inside these particles. The term solid support is more appropriate in describing the insolubility of the polymer, which allows filtration or centrifugation and hence separation of reactants from products.
