ABSTRACT

Angle-dependent optical effects are applied on industrial products [1] primarily for two reasons: They can fulfill the special functional requirements and are used because of their decorative properties. Functional applications are, for instance, security patterns on banknotes, ID cards, or on tickets, which cannot be copied

by conventional copiers or by photography. Forging of such products is substan tially more difficult than without angle-dependent optical characteristics. A sec ond functional application is optical filters and glass coatings which can be used as a means for antireflection or to change the light spectrum in greenhouses. Infrared reflection coatings are found in public buildings as well as in factory plants to reduce the energy influx from direct sunlight.
