ABSTRACT

Many different types of algebraic processes are required in engineering and science. These processes include the solution of systems of linear algebraic equations, the solution of eigenproblems, finding the roots of nonlinear equations, polynomial approximation and interpolation, numerical differentiation and difference formulas, and numerical integration. These topics are not only important in their own right, they lay the foundation for the solution of ordinary and partial differential equations, which are discussed in Parts II and III, respectively. Figure 1.1 illustrates the types of problems considered in Part I.
