ABSTRACT

I. INTRODUCTION Dry cleaning can be defined in a general way as the cleaning of textiles in a sub stantially nonaqueous liquid medium. The process uses special equipment and organic solvents with detergent added. There is no clear history regarding the origin of dry cleaning technology. It is believed that dry cleaning originated in France about the middle of the 19th century. A member of a dyeing and cleaning firm in Paris is credited with the accidental discovery that spilled lamp oil re moved soil from a table cloth [1-3]. Apparently that is the reason dry cleaning was sometimes referred to as “French cleaning.”
