ABSTRACT
This introduction will not try to give the correct answer to the question above, nor will it try to cover all we know about water today. Instead, this chapter will present you with bits and pieces of "common knowledge" describing some of the many aspects related to water. Hopefully, this will enable you to see the rest of this book, the physics, the chemistry, and the microbiology of waters, in a broader perspective.
