ABSTRACT

This chapter considers some requirements for reliability for products operating stresses in accelerated test conditions. It includes some published information about typical environmental conditions for specific product groups. A number of "standard" or "generic" descriptions of environments and operating conditions are available for some products, but most of them are too general to provide the information necessary to assess and predict reliability of a given product. Product reliability specifications usually contain two parts: a statement of required reliability, such as useful life, mean time between failures, and a description of the environmental and operating conditions to which the product will be exposed. Local conditions for the various components of an airplane during each of the segments of a flight vary according to location and duty cycle. The ambient conditions to which a product is exposed also vary throughout each day and from day to day.
