ABSTRACT

I. INITIATION My first encounter with separation science took place at Robert College, The American College of Istanbul, Turkey, where I was an undergraduate student. In one of the biology laboratory experiments we were asked to resolve a mixture of pigments by paper chromatography. The experiment worked and I was fascinated by it. My second encounter happened at Georgetown University, where I wrote a proposal, a requirement for the Ph.D. program, for the separation of selenium complexes by thin layer chromatography (TLC).
