ABSTRACT

To illustrate the power of CAMD in process design, we will discuss an appli­ cation of solvent design using SolvGen, an implementation of the genetic al­ gorithm (Van Dyk, 1998). The gene set used by SolvGen consists of 531 start/ end genes and 368 middle genes. Each gene may consist of up to six types of UNIFAC group, and each chromosome may contain up to eight genes. This gives a total solution space of the order of 1020 molecules. Each generation contains 10,000 chromosomes.
