ABSTRACT
To illustrate the power of CAMD in process design, we will discuss an appli cation of solvent design using SolvGen, an implementation of the genetic al gorithm (Van Dyk, 1998). The gene set used by SolvGen consists of 531 start/ end genes and 368 middle genes. Each gene may consist of up to six types of UNIFAC group, and each chromosome may contain up to eight genes. This gives a total solution space of the order of 1020 molecules. Each generation contains 10,000 chromosomes.
