ABSTRACT

Delving into issues concerning developing countries can be a daunting task. Polysyllabic terms and long agency names are often reduced to a confusing set of acronyms. The complex interactions among government agencies, nongovernmental organizations, and other institutions may overwhelm those not familiar with global affairs. This chapter explores the actors involved in international development issues. The focus is on familiarizing the reader with the actors in the global development arena, with an emphasis on data sources that can be utilized to explore policies related to economic progress, population pressures, health, food security, civil rights, social concerns, and environmental degradation.
