ABSTRACT
I. WRITING THE REVIEW Literature reviews are always part of dissertations and master's theses. They are required as part of articles in most social science journals. A literature review establishes the importance of the topic and assures that the researcher's contribution will not be redundant with past work in the field. The purpose of the literature review is to identify which previous work is directly relevant to the hypotheses and theories the researcher will be investigating. It follows that an efficient and effective literature review cannot be accomplished without a firm grasp of one's theories and hypotheses.
