ABSTRACT
The aim of this chapter is to obtain useful characterizations of the ker nel of an arbitrary spread π in terms of its coordinatizing spreadsets, pre quasifields and quasifields. The characterization of the kernel in terms of spreadsets is based on what we have called the Schur-kernel; this general izes the notion of the central kernel of a spreadset, considered earlier (see proposition 5.3.4).
