ABSTRACT

Four kinds of fibre material (iron wire, steel fibre, sisal fibre & glass fibre) were selected. The fibre reinforced concrete (FRC) specimens were prepared by using four kinds of water cement ratio (W/C) and five kinds of fibre content (F/C). The toughness behavior were tested and analyzed by using 245 KN. dynamic material testing machine. It is found that the best toughness behavior of FRC specimens shown is steel fibre, then in order of iron wire, glass fibre and sisal fibre etc. The toughness and toughness index both increase with fibre content and FRC curing age. While the toughness is decreasing with W/C, but the relationship between the toughness index and W/C isn’t clear. The microstructural features of these four kinds of fibre materials were examined using scanning electron microscope, and the results could be related to their distinct toughness behaviors.
