ABSTRACT

In spite of widely greater use of ferrocement construction there is no rational method of analysis presently available to predict the complete response of the ferrocement thin plated structures in the pre and post cracking phases. The present paper describes a fem formulation employing modified ‘EI’ approach for the non-linear analysis of ferrocement structures. The proposed technique has been rational and computationally economical. Four ferrocement box girders have been cast and tested destructively upto failure under monotonically increasing u.d.l. for the simply supported conditions. The girders were tested under symmetrically and assymetrically placed distributed load over the top flange. The comparison of the predicted and the test results establish the accuracy and the economic viability of the proposed method of analysis.
