ABSTRACT

A ferrocement concrete composite (FCC) column is defined as one having a plain concrete or a reinforced concrete core and an outer casing of ferrocement. When subjected to an axial load it compresses in the vertical direction and tends to expand in the lateral direction due to Poisson’s ratio effect. However, the mesh reinforcement, opposes the lateral expansion and imposes compressive stresses on the core. Due to this confining effect the structural behaviour of this column is different-both strength and ductility increase.
