ABSTRACT

Shearheads are structural steel section assemblies normally placed within the slab on top of a supporting column to enhance the punching shear resistance. They are an effective solution to the problem of providing large service holes or openings next to the column. This paper describes test work carried out in order to establish the most efficient shearhead configuration and to develop a method of design. The paper also discusses some of the advantages of structural steel shearheads to the developer, designer and contractor.
