ABSTRACT

The deflection of such a panel under load consists of a contribution governed by the flexural rigidity of the faces and a contribution governed by the shear rigidity of the core. In contrast to most traditional forms of construction the shear deflection of a sandwich beam is not negligible in comparison with bending deflection, and might even be the dominant component of total deflection.
