ABSTRACT

Recycling of concrete and masonry in the U.S. is not governed by standards designed to address this issue. Existing standards are relied upon for testing the recycled aggregate and masonry material. An important issue in the recycling of concrete/masonry are their environmental impacts and the determination if it is feasible in an environmental sense to proceed with recycling operations. 1 Introduction

The state of the art of recycling concrete/masonry demolition debris in the U.S. is advancing, although slowly. At the present time there are no U.S. national standards (ASTM/ANSI) and few specifications that deal specifically with the subject of recycling these materials. Generally concrete/masonry that is to be recycled is judged by existing standards for its suitability for reuse.
