ABSTRACT

Abstract When concrete is recycled in an aggressive environment it is important to make sure that proceeding alkali aggregate reactions do not cause damages in the new structure. Acce lerated tests have shown that there is a risk of dele terious expansions and cracking. Expansions can be delayed and reduced if fly ash is added to the recycled concrete. The effectiveness of the fly ash depends on the maximum grain size of the recycled aggregate. With a low content of recycled coarse aggregate (20 %) no critical expansions were recorded.
