ABSTRACT

Experimental observations reveal that the deformation of jointed rock is accompa nied by irreversible changes in their internal structure. The presented work considers the inelastic strains and the gradual degradation of the elastic stiffness, caused by the complex interaction of two dissipative mechanisms: plasticity and the nucleation and growth of microcracks.
