ABSTRACT

Abstract In this paper, we discuss our instrumental observation on construction site of a RC box culvert with crack inducers and our quasi 3 dimensional thermal stress analysis. It consists of 2 dimensional heat diffusion analysis and plane stress analysis. By corrparing both results, we verify that our method has sufficient accuracy to forecast the terrperature and thermal stress characteristics of RC structures. Then, we go on to calculate the spacing and crack width induced by crack inducers using the smeared crack model. Finally, we demonstrate that the quasi 3-dimensional analysis can be an effective tool to design thermal crack control of RC wall type structures.
