ABSTRACT
The purpose of this chapter is to invite the reader familiar with the conventionally used concepts of stiffness, load and deflection to alter perspective slightly and to use the input-system-response concept. When stated in this manner, it can be appreciated that there will be little difficulty if the system and the stiffness were to be the same. What occurs in practice is that the stiffness method is merely a special case of the more general systems approach.
