ABSTRACT
The 'r' subscripts refer to a mode labelled 'r', which has modal properties of frequency, damping, displacement (xr) and mass. The concept of a modal mass, which is different from the total mass of the building, will be discussed later. Essentially, though, all of the parameters with the 'r' subscript represent quantities participating in the particular mode of vibration.
