ABSTRACT
If we consider motion only in one direction (e.g. vertical motion), then we find a set of mode shapes of the type shown in Figs 4.10 to 4.14. These mode shapes are obtained by setting n = 1,2 and 3 in equations (4.18) and (4.26), and such modes are found in practice from measurements made on real structures.
