ABSTRACT

The non-dimensional failure loads of the models without defects are presented in Table 3 and Fig. 5. They show that there is no significant difference between long-chord (L) and short-chord (S) results. They also show that there is no significant difference between thin-brace and thick-brace results; this makes it unlikely that weld fillets would change the static strength. However, there are

significant differences between +ve and -ve loading; the -ve loading which causes brace compression on the side nearest to the support (see Fig. 1) gives significantly lower strengths than corresponding +ve loading. Of course, there is no difference in out-of-plane bending (ex = 90").
