ABSTRACT
2 Objective. Design formulae for tubular joints in plane frame constructions are well known and are already included in various design standards and recommendations (Eurocode 1992, IIW 1989). However, very little work has been carried out on multi-planar joints, especially with rectangular hollow section (RHS) members by Redwood (1983), Giddings (1985) and Scola (1990); much more work has been done on joints with circular hollow section (CHS) members by Makino (1984), Paul (1991) and Mouty (1992) and recommendations for their design have been established.
