ABSTRACT

In figure 9 is shown an application of equation (8) to the data of SCR and SCAP from figures 3 and 8. Notes: a) Before calculation of the freeze/thaw resistance, it must be made sure the mean values of porosity and moisture ratio at full saturation for freeze/thaw specimens and water uptake specimens agree within reasonable limits. Too large deviations might depend on erroneous sampling or on errors in determination of dry

weight and pore-volume. It must, however, be noted that in special cases, relatively large deviations in these properties occur purely because of different cement paste contents in the different types of specimens. In such cases, the deviations have no influence since they disappear during calculation of degree of saturation. [They do, however, not disappear during calculation of moisture ratio which further limits the validity of equation (4) as a definition of freeze/thaw resistance.] b) The same limitations hold for equation (8) as for equation (6); see section 3.8, note c.
