ABSTRACT
The recommendation describes the size-effect method for determining the fracture energy of concrete by measuring the maximum loads of geometrically similar notched concrete specimens of different sizes. The fracture energy Gf which is obtained by this method is defined as the specific energy (i.e. energy per unit crack plane area) required for fracture growth in an infinitely large test specimen. This definition is, in theory, independent of both the specimen size and shape.
