ABSTRACT

Abstract This paper describes how the problems associated with expansion joints and bridge bearings in simply supported spans of multi-span steel structures can be overcome by the preferred and significantly more durable continuous steel and composite bridge construction. Totall y jointless steel and composite bridges are discussed and integral abutments illustrated. Achieveabl e continuty, economy and aesthetics are also considered.
