ABSTRACT

GENERAL Some grouts act mainly as water stops to reduce the porosity (and permeability) of the soil before the use of, or as substitute for, compressed air. These grouts are not intended to increase the strength of the ground to any significant extent, since excavation must proceed without difficulty. Other grouts greatly enhance the compressive strength of the ground, so causing it to require more excavation effort. As a general procedure, grout should be injected in small quantities at closely spaced intervals, and repeated.
